Autumn: Active Planet
The children have homework once a week. The work will be sent home on Friday and should be returned on the following Tuesday. In year 4 we are sending home a few words each week from the Year 4 spelling list in addition to teaching spelling patterns as part of our English lessons. We suggest different strategies for learning spellings and encourage creative learning – it is important that children discover what works for them and we do not wish for homework to be a source of grief or stress! If you are having problems with this then please do go and see Rebecca or Will. Periodically, we will be asking the children to prepare a presentation to share with the class.

Dance: Will take place in the side playground under the ‘shed’. We will alternate which class has dance with Jess, our dance teacher, each half-term.
P.E: We will be doing outside PE only and will also be aiming to do 3 additional Daily Mile sessions a week. Please make sure your child comes to school in suitable footwear and clothing to run in each day as children will not be changing for PE/Daily Mile sessions.
Class assemblies: There will be no class assemblies this term.
Class visit: If class visits happen, we will ensure they are walking distance only.
What to bring to school: Children are expected to bring a labelled water bottle to school each day. They can bring a suitable packed lunch which they are expected to be able to eat independently and within the allocated time; they should be able to open flasks etc. on their own.
Additionally, children are allowed to bring a reading book from home to read in school each day as long as they keep it in their tray and do not share it with others. Children should not bring any bags to school apart from their lunchbox/bag.
Medicine: Please make sure we have two sets of medication for your child if they need it. (EpiPen, inhalers, etc)
Homework: As last year, we will be sending home weekly spelling homework but we are placing the emphasis on the online activities (spelling shed) which we expect to be completed each week. Children do not need to bring back their homework sheet but should use it as practice to support the online activities and in-class spelling assessment each week. Children will also be set weekly times tables on Times Table Rockstars. Please ensure your child is practising each week.
Parents Evening: The school will be in touch about parents evening which is planned to take place this term.
PPA: This year Andrea will be covering the Year 4 teachers’ planning, preparation and assessment time each week.
There will be not be a parent meeting at the start of this year, so if you have any further questions please do let us know via the office
